Donate books to drive till Oct. 28

     The children's book drive, sponsored by Student Health
Services to benefit the Read Aloud Delaware program will continue
through Oct. 28.
     Donations will be accepted in the Student Health Service in
Laurel Hall and book pick-ups are available.

'Charlotte's Web' is series' first film

     The ever-popular film Charlotte's Web and a tour of the
University of Delaware Farm are planned for children and their
parents on Sunday, Oct. 27.
     Part of the UD Performing Arts Series' Junior Series, the
program begins at 1 p.m. in the Trabant University Center
Theatre.
     The animated film of E.B. White's classic children's story.
The tour, which follows the movie, gives youngsters the chance to
see similar animals up close and personal.
     Other films scheduled this fall in the Junior Series include
The Black Stallion at 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 23; and Pete's
Dragon, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7.
     The Black Stallion tells the tale of a young boy saved from
a shipwreck by a beautiful stallion.
     Together, they survive on an isolated island and forge a
lasting bond. Pete's Dragon chronicles the adventures of Elliott,
a 20-foot high, 40-foot long, frequently invisible dragon who is
an orphan boy's best friend.
     Tickets for each event are $4 for adults and $1 for children
and students.

Before and after election lectures

     Media coverage and a post-mortem of the election will be
discussed as part of "Election Special '96," an outreach lecture
series sponsored in Wilmington by the University.
     The free, public lectures will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. in
Room 117 of Arsht Hall.
     "Election '96: Mass Media- Kingmakers or Palace Guards," the
role of the mass media in elections, will be presented Wednesday,
Oct. 30, by Douglas McLeod, communication; and "Election Post-
mortem," a panel discussion, is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 13.
     The series is sponsored by the Master of Arts in Liberal
Studies (MALS) Program, the College of Arts and Science outreach
program and the Division of Continuing Education.

Peace seminar program Nov. 6

     The Baha'i communities of New Castle County are sponsoring a
Peace Series Seminar entitled "Soaring Into the Millenium on the
Wings of Peace."
     The speaker is Peter Oldziey, an educator from Dover.
     The program is scheduled from 7:30-9:15 p.m., Wednesday,
Nov. 6, in Room 211 of the Trabant University Center.
     A discussion will follow the presentation.

Talk Oct. 29 on 'Out Inside D.C.'

     Herb Moses, companion of U.S. Rep. Barney Frank of
Massachusetts, will speak on "Out Inside Washington-Reflections
as America's First Openly Gay Washington Wife," at 8 p.m.,
Friday, Oct. 29, at Pencader Commons I.
     The talk is sponsored by the Office of Residence Life, the
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Student Union, the Lesbian, Gay Bisexual
Concerns Caucus and the Lavender Scholars.
     

Ghost stories on Halloween Day

     The University Bookstore is sponsoring a free, lunchtime
storytelling program on "UD Ghosts and Local Legends" for the
University community from noon-1:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 31, in
Room 209/211 Trabant University Center.
     Brown baggers are welcome to attend the program, which will
be presented by Ed Okonowicz, public relations.
     A book signing of In the Vestibule, his latest book on
regional ghosts and folklore, will follow the presentation.

Faculty artwork to go on display

     Paintings, prints, handmade paper, ceramics and photography
will be featured in an exhibit of works by University art
faculty, scheduled from Nov. 12 through Dec. 11 at the University
Gallery in Old College.
     Sponsored by the University Gallery and the Department of
Art, the free public exhibit will feature paintings by Larry
Holmes and Steve Tanis, printmaking and handmade paper by
Rosemary Lane, ceramics by Victor Spinski and photography by John
Weiss.
     All the participating artists are full professors at UD.
     An opening reception to honor the artists will be held from
4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12. A gallery discussion with
Holmes and Weiss is scheduled for noon, Wednesday, Nov. 20.
Participants are encouraged to bring a lunch.
     The gallery, located on the second floor of Old College, is
open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays, and 1 to 5
p.m., Saturdays and Sundays.

Songfest concerts on Parents Day

     The UD Chorale will sponsor Songfest, a concert featuring
the University's choirs and a cappella groups, during Parents
Weekend.
     Songfest will be held at 4:30 and again at 9 p.m. on
Saturday, Oct. 26, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du
Pont Music Building.
     Tickets are $8 for the general public and $5 for students
and senior citizens.

Make a difference this Saturday

     The University community will participate in National Make a
Difference Day on Parents Day, Oct. 26, by collecting canned food
in the Trabant University Center, the Office of Greek Affairs and
at the David M. Nelson Athletic Complex.
     Food donations will be accepted at Delaware Stadium before
the Parents Day football game, and all food collected will be
donated to the Food Bank of Delaware.

ALL artworks in Wilmington loop

     Works by members of the University's Academy of Lifelong
Learning (ALL) will be featured Friday  Nov. 1, in Wilmington's
popular Art on the Town art loop.
     The "ALL Star" display, in the University's Goodstay Center,
2600 Pennsylvania Ave., includes paintings and sculpture produced
by academy members. Refreshments will be served from 5-8 p.m.
