     Several members of the theatre department performed, made
presentations and conducted workshops over the summer: Joann
Browning, "Finding the Funds-University and K-12 Collaborations,"
at the Association for Theatre in Higher Education national
conference, August, New York City. Catherine Fitzmaurice,
theatre, conducted voice workshops at The Actors Center, New York
University; State University of New York-Fredonia; Trinity
College and the Baltimore Shakespeare Festival; she served as
voice coach for The Rivals and Loot at the Hartford Stage, Arms
and the Man at The Acting Company and Cymbeline and Ma Rainey's
Black Bottom at New York University; and she presented a
workshop, "Destructuring/Restructuring the Breathing," at the
Association for Theatre in Higher Education national conference,
August, New York City. Susan Sweeney, performed as Melissa in the
Milwaukee Chamber Theatre production of Love Letters, and Steve
Tague performed as Malvolio in Twelfth Night and Prospero in The
Tempest at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival.


AWARDS

     Kenneth B. Bischoff, Unidel Professor of Biomedical
Engineering, received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the
Armour College of Engineering and Science, Illinois Institute of
Technology.


SERVICE

     Susan Brynteson, library, was elected to the board of
directors of the Corporation of Yaddo, an artists' community near
Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Yaddo, whose mission is to nurture the
creative process by providing an opportunity for artists to work
without interruption in a supportive environment, is a private
foundation for the perpetuation of the creative arts and supports
novelists, poets, painters, sculptors, composers, choreographers
and others involved in creating new work.

     Joann Browning, theatre, was elected East Central Theatre
Conference representative for the Association for Theatre
Movement Educators.

     Raymond Callahan, history, was named vice president and
president-elect of the Association of Graduate Liberal Studies
Programs at the association's annual meeting Oct. 3-5 in
Vancouver. He also was named to the Department of the Army's
History Advisory Committee.

     Claudia Fischer and Jama Allegretto, arts and science,
assisted in coordinating the program and poster sessions at the
20th annual national conference on academic advisting, Oct. 6-9,
Washington, D.C.
