Alum, author in center tonight

     Charles Lewis, UD grad and author of The Buying of the
President, will speak at 8 p.m., Tonight, in Multipurpose Rooms A
and B of the Trabant University Center.
     The free, public lecture is sponsored political science and
international relations, history and Pacem in Terris.

Golf lessons at MBNA Classic

     During the 1996 MBNA Blue Hen Celebrity Golf Classic, a
"Beginner's Division," sponsored by Aetna U.S. Healthcare, will
give newcomers a chance to learn about golf etiquette, the
fundamentals of swing, rules of the game, short game tips and
information on proper equipment and dress.
     Cost of the beginner's package, which also includes lunch,
an invitation to a beginner's seminar, a gold clinic, gift
package and invitation to the Blue Cross Blue Shield Gala Auction
Party, is $150.

Tax reform is topic of lecture

     Steve Meyer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia
will discuss "Tax Reform, Savings and Economic Growth" at 7:30
tonight in Arsht Hall on the Wilmington Campus.

Senate hopefuls to debate on Oct. 22

     Democratic incumbent Sen. Joseph R. Biden, Republican
challenger Ray Clatworthy and Libertarian candidate Mark Jones
will debate foreign policy at the University on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
     The debate, "The United Nations and U.S. Foreign Policy,"
will be held at 7:30 p.m., in Room 128, Clayton Hall.
     Candidates will have an opportunity to give presentations,
and written questions will be taken from the audience.
     The free public debate is sponsored by the Department of
Political Science and International Relations, the Delaware
Division of the United Nations Association, the Wilmington branch
of the American Association of University Women and Pacem In
Terris.

HTAC will show 'How to Succeed'

     The Harrington Theatre Arts Company will present the
popular musical, How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying
during October.
     Performances are scheduled at 8 p.m. on Friday and
Saturday, Oct. 18 and 19; Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 24-
26, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20.  All performances will take
place in the auditorium of Pearson Hall. Admission is $5 for
students and $7 for the general public.
     A 1995 Broadway revival of How To Succeed In Business
Without Really Trying won a Tony Award.

Craft show marks 20th anniversary

     The University of Delaware Women's Club will hold its much-
anticipated 20th annual Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.,
Friday, Nov. 15, and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 16,
in the Trabant University Center's Multipurpose Room C.
     The event will feature handmade items by crafters from the
tristate area. Also featured will be flower arrangements, country
decor, jewelry, toys, clothing, baskets and Blue Hen items.
Holiday items include decorations, ornaments and wreaths. For

Songfest concert set for Oct. 26

     A concert scheduled at 4:30 and 9 p.m. on Parents Day,
Saturday, Oct. 26, will feature a number of University choral
ensembles and a cappella groups in the Loudis Recital Hall of the
Amy E. du Pont Music Building.
     Tickets are $8 for the general public and $5 for students.

E-52 to present 'Cabaret' in Nov.

     E-52 Student Theatre will present the musical Cabaret at 8
p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 1, 2, 8 and 9, and at 3 p.m.
on Sunday, Nov. 3, in the auditorium of Pearson Hall.
     Set in Berlin in 1930, Cabaret tells the story of the
German counter-culture in the years preceding the rise of Adolph
Hitler. While the Emcee of the Kit Kat Klub sets the stage for
both the glamour and the seediness of the world, the plot centers
around Sally Bowles, a young English girl dancing in the cabaret.
     Ticket prices are $5 for students, $6 for others with UD ID
and $7 for the general public.

Fulbright scholars event at Penn

     In celebration of 50 years of Fulbright exchanges, a
reception will be held for Philadelphia area Fulbright alumni,
and the University of Pennsylvania's Fulbright students and
scholars.
     The event will take place from 4:30-6 p.m., Wednesday, Oct.
23, at the E. Craig Sweeten Alumni Center, 3533 Locust Walk, in
Philadelphia.

Spanish writer to present program

     Noted writer, Susana Hernandez-Araico will speak on "A
Baroque Fete, A Theatrical Feat: Sor Jauna's Los empenos de una
casa"  at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 22, in Room 206, Kirkbride
Lecture Hall
     A professor of English and foreign languages at the
California State Polytechnic University in Pamona, Hernandez-
Araico is a coauthor of a forthcoming book about Sor Juana Ines
de la Cruz and is a well-known writer and speaker on contemporary
Mexican women authors and the Spanish Golden Age drama.
     The free, public lecture is sponsored by the Department of
Foreign Languages and Literatures, the Women's Studies
Interdisciplinary Program, the Women's Visiting Scholars Award
Program, the Minority Scholars Fund, Sigma Delta Pi honor society
