Making it Work: Karen Spry
I benefited so much from being with my grandmother that I
chose to become involved with senior citizens and volunteer at
the St. Anthony's Senior Center, serving lunches and delivering
them to older, home-bound people. Frequently, they invite me into
their apartments so they can share their lives with me, so it
becomes more than just dropping off a lunch. Sometimes, senior
citizens are the "forgotten group," but they can teach us a lot
about life.
The satisfaction I feel when I do things for or with United
Way is an emotional high. My heart bursts with excitement when I
feel I am accomplishing some good. Contributing dollars makes me
feel happy, because the money is going to a good cause.
