Homecoming events for students and alumni
Fall means it's time for Homecoming, and the University has
scheduled a weekend of great activities to celebrate this annual
event from Friday, Oct. 18, through Monday, Oct. 21.
Friday, Oct. 18
The weekend begins on Friday afternoon, with something for
everyone.
From 2-5 p.m., the annual Homecoming Carnival will be held
on the Mall near Brown and Sypherd residence halls. The
celebration includes music, food and activities organized by
student organizations and Greek chapters.
At 4:30 p.m., a pep rally is scheduled between Brown and
Sypherd, featuring the UD Marching Band, the Precision Dance
Team, cheerleaders and a cappella singing groups. UD Spirit
Ambassadors and the T. Muncy Keith Spirit Award winner will be
announced at that time.
From 5:30-7:30 p.m., alumni and visitors can tour
Recitation Hall, Recitation Annex and Taylor Hall during an open
house that showcases renovations to all three historic buildings.
Also from 5:30-7:30 p.m., a reception for all alumni will
be held on the lawn of Old College. Contact the Office of Alumni

Other special activities Oct. 18 include the Blue Hen
women's soccer team against Hartford at 4 p.m. in the mini-
stadium of the David M. Nelson Athletic Complex.
The dedication of the J. Robert King Rehearsal Room in the
Amy E. du Pont Music Building is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Call 831-

The day concludes with the Rock 'n' Roll 'n' Remember
Concert, a dance concert featuring Bobby Rydell and Mary Wilson
at 8 p.m. in the Bob Carpenter Center. The concert is sponsored

Saturday, Oct. 19
The centerpiece of activity on Saturday, Oct. 19, is Blue
Hen football, as the Fightin' Blue Hens take on Northeastern
University at 1 p.m. in Delaware Stadium.

In addition, alumni and visitors can enjoy a wide range of
other sporting events that day. The men's cross country team's
alumni/faculty meet will be held at 9:30 a.m. and a men's meet
begins at 10:30 a.m., all at White Clay Creek State Park. Contact

The women's cross country team will host the Delaware
Invitational at 11:15 a.m., also in White Clay Creek State Park.
The Blue Hen women's tennis alumni match will take place at 10
a.m. at the Delaware Field House and an alumni softball game also
will begin at 10 a.m. on the softball field of the Nelson
Athletic Complex.
The 5K Homecoming Campus Run-Around will begin at 9:30 a.m.
on a flat course winding through the central campus and ending on
the Mall. Runners and walkers can call 831-8600.
Also on Saturday, class reunion tailgate parties will begin
at 11 a.m. on Reunion Row, behind Delaware Field House, for the
classes of 1956, 1961, 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986 and 1991. The
Class of 1951 will hold its 45th Reunion Dinner Dance at 5:30
p.m. in Clayton Hall.
Reunion Row also will be the site for a variety of special
events, including the College of Arts and Science alumni tent,
featuring the alumni band, which will be open from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

hold its 30th anniversary tailgate from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
The Black Alumni Organization will hold its tailgate party
beginning at 11 a.m. For more information, call 831-1991.
The University Honors Program will hold its 20th
anniversary reunion from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information,
call 831-2734.
The Cheerleading Alumni tent will be open from 10 a.m.-1
p.m. Call 831-1437. The College of Business and Economics alumni
tailgate will be held there from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., after its Award
of Excellence presentation, scheduled at 10 a.m. in Room 101B of
Clayton Hall. For more information, call 831-2551.
Also that day, the Student Alumni Association Junior Tent,
with child care available from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., will have limited
spaces available for children ages 3-10 years. Call 831-2341.
Immediately after the football game, the annual Goalpost
Party will be held in the Delaware Field House, with music and
refreshments. Admission is free.
Sunday, Oct. 20
On Sunday, Oct. 20, alumni and friends can see the Blue Hen
Men's Soccer team take on Drexel at 1 p.m. in the Delaware Mini-
Stadium.
Monday, Oct. 21
Homecoming concludes on Monday, Oct. 21, when Dallas Green
and LPGA professional Cindy Rarick will host the MBNA Celebrity
Blue Hen Golf Classic. Featuring national and local celebrities,
the classic will benefit UD's Athletic Scholarship Fund. Call
