The good Earth

Last year, a group of employees from building services
enjoyed an outdoor lunch near Ewing Hall and decided to leave
their leftover tomatoes and lettuce for some small bunnies they
had noticed hopping around.
This year-same time, same place-they noticed a volunteer
tomato seedling sprouting. While a tomato patch is not part of
the University's overall landscaping plan, the prolific intruder
is thriving and bearing enough tomatoes for the group to enjoy,
even as late as October. But, Violet Pennington said, "With the
cold, it looks like it's time for fried green tomatoes."
Giving TLC to the plant are (from left) Edith Corron, Lisa
Shoun, Pennington, Ninette Pytko and Anita Chandler.
