Making It Work - Praria Stavis-Hicks

I serve on the board of the Newark Day Nursery, a center
providing day care for preschool children, after-school programs
for older children and a summer camp.
"This is my third term on the board, which oversees
budgetary issues and makes policy for the nursery. It's a good
facility that attracts children from all income ranges. But, the
key issue is providing quality care for people who don't have a
lot of money.
"The nursery really works hard to keep costs down, so people
from low-income families can have access to quality day care. I
have two children, ages 7 and 10. My husband has always had good
day-care benefits through his employers. I've been pretty lucky,
and I wanted to help people who haven't been as fortunate as I
have."
