CeCe Winans will present two shows on Oct. 13
She has performed on The Tonight Show, counted with Big Bird
on Sesame Street and appeared in commercials for Crest and
McDonald's. CeCe Winans-one of contemporary music's most
acclaimed vocalists-seems to be popping up in the most unexpected
places.
Half of the award-winning duo, BeBe and CeCe, she has
garnered unprecedented acceptance in R&B and Christian music
circles alike.
With a new solo album to her credit, CeCe will appear in
Newark on Sunday, Oct. 13, as part of the University's Performing
Arts Series. Performances are planned at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. that
day in Mitchell Hall.
Since the debut album, BeBe & CeCe, was released in 1987,
the duo has earned one platinum record and two gold records,
seven Grammy Awards, seven Christian music Dove Awards, five
Stellar Awards and three NAACP Image Awards.
The duo's recordings have yielded seven Christian radio
singles, as well as five R&B top 10 radio singles, two of which
rose to number one.
The group's unwavering message of hope has won it the
respect of its peers in the music and entertainment industry
across the board.
Now, with the release of Alone in His Presence, her first
solo album, CeCe embarks on a new chapter in her musical career.
The popular album features a collection of classic hymns and
contemporary Christian favorites. Fans of the duo need not worry,
as they have plans to continue recording together.
Immersed in a church filled with family and friends since
early childhood, finding a church was the most important
consideration of CeCe's relocation five years ago from Detroit to
Nashville.
"The whole concept of church is just so important," she
explains. "People don't think it's important nowadays, but that's
where you really learn how to be a child of God in every
situation. You need the accountability. I need somebody to know
that I am nothing without God. My church family is always praying
for me; they are always there for me."
Tickets for each concert are $20 for the general public, $15
for UD faculty, staff, alumni and senior citizens and $10 for
students and children.
Tickets are available at box offices at the Bob Carpenter
Center, the Trabant University Center and Hartshorn Hall.
