Search for new deans announced
Provost Mel Schiavelli has announced the formation of search
committees to identify candidates for the two dean positions that
would be established following the merger of several University
colleges.
Carolyn A. Thoroughgood, dean of the College of Marine
Studies, has been appointed search chairperson for the dean of
the combined proposed College of Human Resources, Education and
Urban Affairs and Public Policy.
John C. Nye, dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences,
will head the search committee for the proposed combined College
of Physical Education, Athletics and Recreation and Nursing.
According to Schiavelli, the proposed mergers are still
under consideration and will be presented to the trustees at the
December semiannual meeting. Beginning the searches now for
qualified deans will help ensure a smooth transition if the board
gives its approval.
Members of Thoroughgood's search committee include David
Ames, urban affairs and public policy; Norma Gaines, human
resources; Marion Hyson, individual and family studies; Jane
Lamb, textiles, design and consumer economics; Jerome Lewis,
urban affairs and public policy; Cynthia Okolo, educational
studies; John Pikulski, educational development; Edward Ratledge,
urban affairs and public policy; Bonnie Robb, foreign languages
and literatures; Barbara Van Dornick, education; and Juan
Villamarin, anthropology.
Serving with Nye are David Barlow, physical education;
Pamela Beeman, nursing; Anna Ciulla, medical technology,
Alexander Doberenz, nutrition and dietetics, M. David Ermann,
sociology; William Johnson, physical education, athletics and
recreation; Barbara Kelly, physical education; and Mary Ann
Miller, nursing.
Schiavelli has asked the search committees to progress as
quickly as possible so that new deans may be in place by July 1.
