New major in ag

     A new major in natural resources management is being offered
by the College of Agricultural Sciences this fall. The program
will combine hard science courses with courses in policy and
economics theory.
     The major is a collaborative effort of entomology and
applied ecology, food and resource economics and plant and soil
sciences and offers another option for students interested in
natural resources and environmental issues.
     The core curriculum includes biology, botany, micro- and
macroeconomics, wildlife conservation and ecology, calculus, data
analysis, soil science and computer skills, including geographic
information systems. Electives can include courses in geology,
geography, meteorology, economics and political science.
     The natural resources management major is designed to
provide a an awareness of ecological principles, a solid
background in science and an understanding of policy-making and
managing natural resources.
     The major will prepare students for careers in government
agencies, consulting firms, research institutes or attendance at
graduate school.
