David Hollowell receives national service award

David Hollowell, executive vice president, received the 1997 Distinguished Service Award from the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) during its annual meeting July 15 in Chicago.

The award recognizes Hollowell's exceptional contributions to the activities and success of the society, as well as his service and commitment to SCUP's goals and activities.

The Distinguished Service Award is one of the society's two most prestigious awards. SCUP is an international organization of more than 4,000 members devoted to all areas of higher education planning. This includes academic planning, facilities planning, resource and decision making planning and architecture. The members are typically senior institutional planners and architectural firms.

Hollowell has served the organization in many capacities, including president; as chairperson of the Strategic Planning Task Force, which produced a guide for the organization's transition into the next century; as national conference chairperson; as acad emy convener; as local hosts chairperson; as committee member; as presenter; and as convener.

His contributions have been a major factor in the society's becoming the leading association focused exclusively on planning in higher education-a vision Hollowell articulated when he was elected to lead the society as president from July 1994-July 1995.

Hollowell also was a major force in improving the society's financial status, and he led the development of SCUP's first presence on the World Wide Web.

Hollowell joined the UD staff in January 1988.

He has responsibility for computing and network services, employee relations, facilities and budget planning.
