Board approval
Faculty promotions announced, effective on Sept. 1
Faculty promotions were approved at the semiannual
Board of Trustees meeting, held May 27 in the Trabant
University Center. The appointments take effect Sept. 1.
Promoted to full professor are
Suresh Advani, mechanical engineering;
Steven D. Brown, chemistry and biochemistry;
Joann Browning, theatre;
H. Perry Chapman, art history;
Katherine Conway-Turner, individual and family
studies;
Nancy Cotugna, nutrition and dietetics;
James Dean, English;
Ralph Ferretti and Joe Glutting, educational
studies;
Robert Hampel, educational development;
Christine Heyrman, history;
Judith Hough-Goldstein and Charles E. Mason,
entomology and applied ecology;
Howard Johnson, Black American Studies Program;
Sherry L. Kitto, plant and soil sciences;
Barbara Landau, psychology;
Carlos Plata-Salaman, biology;
James Richards, Physical Education Program;
Paul H. Sammelwitz, animal and food sciences; and
Monika Shafi, foreign languages and literatures.
In addition, Timothy Barnekov was promoted to
professor without tenure in urban affairs and public
policy.
Seventeen faculty members were promoted to the rank of
associate professor with tenure:
Ronet Bachman and Eric Rise, sociology and criminal
justice;
Paul Berger, electrical engineering;
Margaret H. Birney, nursing;
James Brophy, history;
Kurt Burch, political science and international
relations;
Marie-Christine Delbeau, music;
James. L. Glancey, agricultural engineering;
Pablo Huq, marine studies;
Nancy Jordan and Kathleen Minke, educational
studies;
Irene McClay, physical therapy;
Ali Poorani, hotel, restaurant and institutional
management;
Ajay Prasad, mechanical engineering;
Kathryn Scantlebury, chemistry and biochemistry;
Priscilla Smith, art; and
David Stone, art history.
Four faculty members were promoted to the rank of
associate professor without tenure:
Anne Colwell and David Teague, English-Parallel
Program;
Jon Conrad, music; and
Karen Curtis, urban affairs and public policy.
Two faculty members were promoted to assistant
professor:
Eileen Grycky and Harvey Price, music.
In addition, tenure was granted to Francis Kwansa,
associate professor of hotel, restaurant and institutional
management.
