Earl Davis UD#1 Card system coordinator

Earl Davis, Information Technologies, has been
appointed coordinator for the University's card system
support, overseeing the hardware, software and activity
required to support the UD#1 Card-the official
identification card for faculty, staff and students.
The card also can be used for a number of other
services, including dining plans and flexible spending
accounts.
According to Davis, the University card system is run
on software provided by AT&T Campuswide Access Solutions
Inc. (formerly Harco Industries Inc.) in a Unix environment
on a Hewlett-Packard computer.
The system interfaces across the campus network with
the University's central administrative databases, such as
the Student Information System and other business functions.
Network and Systems Services supports the hardware and
operating system and is responsible for the network of more
than 270 defined card-reader devices attached to the system.
Davis has responsibility for coordination with
University departments to determine their card system needs
and usage, equipment location and installation and
resolution of system problems. He also will initiate or
review purchase requisitions for card system-related
products and services and will act as liaison between
University departments and the card system vendor.
Formerly manager of operations for Network and Systems
Services and a member of the UD staff for 15 years, Davis
said his new assignment presents considerable challenges as
responsibility for the University Card System is centralized
under Information Technologies.
In his new position, he reports to Rebecca Doughty,
Network and Systems Services.
