Four students honored for research at annual 
Marion Steele Symposium

     Fourteen graduate and undergraduate students from UD
and Delaware State University made presentations at the 12th
annual Marion H. Steele Symposium for student research in
the field of human resources May 8 in Alison Hall, and four
UD students took top honors.
     The winning graduate students, who tied for first place
and were each awarded $350, were Jennifer F. Greenly and
Donna R. Paulhamas.
     Greenly, whose faculty sponsor was Charlene Hamilton,
nutrition and dietetics, spoke on "Professional Applications
of Computer Technology by Members of the American Dietetic
Association."
     Paulhamas, whose faculty sponsor was Arlette Rasmussen,
nutrition and dietetics, spoke on "Current Evidence
Regarding Supplementation of Vitamin E and Cardiovascular
Disease."
     The winning undergraduate students were Beth Hatt,
first place, who received $400, and Christian Dunn, second
place, who received $300.
     Hatt, whose faculty sponsors were Jack Smith, nutrition
and dietetics, and Kevin Waninger, Student Health Services,
spoke on "Comparison of the Pre-Competition Diets of Aerobic
Versus Anaerobic Athletes."
     Dunn, whose faculty sponsor was Rob Palkovitz,
individual and family studies, spoke on "The Father
Struggles: Trying to Fill the Gap of Fatherhood."
     The symposium honors the late Marion H. Steele, a 41-
year member of the American Home Economics Association
headquarters staff who served from 1956-1969 as managing
editor of the Journal of Home Economics. She also took an
active interest in the development of the International
Scholarship Program.
     The symposium is sponsored by the College of Human
Resources, in coordination with the Delaware Association of
Family and Consumer Sciences, Human Resources Alumni
Association and Delaware State University, with support from
the family of Ms. Steele.
