Computer workshops to be offered in June
Computers Are Fun" is the theme of several two-hour
workshops being offered for parents and young children this
summer by the University.
Sponsored by the Technology in Early Childhood (TECH)
Program, the workshops are designed to allow children and
their parents to explore computers together.
Each session will include a demonstration in which
children are introduced to computer skills and concepts, an
exploration time when parents and children can preview new
software and an instructional time when adults learn about
a particular topic.
Each session covers a separate topic. Families can
choose to attend only one workshop or can register for two
or all three sessions offered in their child's age group.
Session I will cover choosing the best software for
children, session II will deal with purchasing and
upgrading a computer with children in mind and session III
will discuss ways to use a computer effectively with young
children.
Parents and children ages 4-8 who have a computer or
are interested in getting one are encouraged to attend.
Those who want to see what technology for young
children is all about also are invited to attend. No
computer experience by parent or child is necessary.
Tuition for each session is $35. The fee reserves
space for a parent or guardian and one child and covers
instructional costs, hardware and software preview time,
relevant literature and refreshments. The registered adult
may bring a second child in the appropriate age group for
an additional $10. There is a maximum of two children per
adult. If registering for all three sessions, tuition is
$100 plus an additional $15 free for a second child.
Sessions for children ages 4 to 6-1/2 will be held
from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 17, and Wednesday, June
18, and from 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, June 21.
Sessions for children ages 6-1/2 to 8 will be held
from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 24, and Wednesday, June
25, and from 10 a.m.-noon, Saturday, June 28.
Classes will be held in the UD Preschool, 120 Alison
Hall. Space is limited and early registration is
encouraged. To register or for more information, call 831-
