U.S. Airways named preferred carrier for
                     University business travelers

Thanks to an agreement signed with U.S. Airways in
April, UD faculty and staff traveling on business will
receive discounted airfares when using University Travel
Services, according to Tory Windley, purchasing.
The new agreement designates U.S. Airways as the
preferred carrier for UD business travel. U.S. Airways has
set up a Gold File for the University to implement the
discount on round trip flights over 200 miles.
"This is an important step in establishing a mutually
advantageous program with U.S. Airways, and we encourage
faculty and staff to take full advantage of the new
arrangement. It is good for the University, as well as
University Travel Services and the airline, and we hope to
expand the program in the future for other groups. It is
especially timely as U.S. Airways is increasing the number
of flights from Philadelphia International Airport," Windley
said.
"We have had an ongoing, excellent working relationship
with U.S. Airways, which also is helping to support the
University's Summer Arts Festival this year," she said.
U.S. Airways account manager Darla Rice calls the
agreement a win/win program, pointing out that the airline
flies to cities all over the U.S., Europe, Canada, the
Caribbean and Bermuda. "We hope to work with the University
in several other areas where air transportation is
involved," she said.
Cheryl Pini, manager of University Travel Services, the
on-site travel agency, said she is delighted with the
agreement. "U.S. Airways selects very few universities or
businesses for this kind of arrangement, which offers many
advantages to individuals and to the University," she said.
