Pool, Ice Arena to offer 'cool' summer programs
If you're worried that this cool and chilly spring will
give way to a hot and humid summer, consider the many
programs available at the Ice Arena and Outdoor Pool.
Designed to keep patrons cool and content, both the pool and
ice arena will be the places to chill out this summer.
The UD Outdoor Pool, located behind the Gold Ice Arena,
is the largest pool in the state. The 50-meter facility,
which opens May 24, is equipped with a diving well and two
diving boards. New this year is a baby pool, perfect for
younger children who are happy just to wade.
This summer, the Outdoor Pool will run three sessions
of parent/tot, pre-school, beginner, advanced beginner,
intermediate and advanced swimming lessons. Aquacize, a low-
impact water aerobic class, also will be offered for three
sessions. In addition, the UD Blue Fish, the summer swim
team, will once again train and compete throughout the
summer. Swimming lessons, aquacize and the swim team are
open to pool members only.
Membership for a family of four is $175, with an
additional $10 charge for each additional family member.
Individual memberships are $90. UD employees receive a $10
discount off individual memberships and a $25 discount off
the family membership. UD full-time students can enter the
pool free of charge.
For an even cooler atmosphere, the UD Ice Arena offers
an array of summer programs. Community skating lessons for
all ages begin on June 16, and instructional hockey lessons
begin on June 21. Summer sessions are generally less crowded
than winter sessions and offer students more personalized
attention.
Cost of the community class skating program is $65, and
the instructional hockey program cost is $90.
For the more experienced hockey player, the arena has
three summer hockey leagues-an in-house league, open to
skaters ages 9-14; the Blue League, a non-check adult
league; and the Gold League, a check adult league.
The in-house league will have 10 practices and 10 games
throughout the season, and both adult leagues have 10 games
scheduled from June through the beginning of August.
