advising awards were announced May 9 during Honors Day
ceremonies.
Four faculty were honored with the excellence in
teaching award: John Bergman, mathematical sciences; Karen

Kathleen McCoy, computer and information sciences.
Excellence in advising honors were presented to Jeanne
Victoria Orner, chemistry and biochemistry; Palaniappa
Krishnan, agricultural engineering; and Anna Ciulla, medical

Each of these faculty members received a $2,500 award
to emphasize the importance of excellence in teaching and
academic advising at the University.
The excellence in teaching recipients are selected on
the basis of student evaluations and nominations. The
excellence in advising awards encourage faculty to devote
their time and attention to become more effective advisers.
