Evelyn Satinoff chairperson of national search for dean
                                   
     Evelyn Satinoff, chairperson of the Department of
Psychology, will head a 13-member committee just named to
conduct a national search for a new dean of the College of
Arts and Science-UD's largest college.
     The new dean will replace Mary Richards, who has served
since 1991 and will step down June 30 to return to teaching.
     Margaret Andersen, professor of sociology and vice
provost for academic affairs, will become interim dean of
the college on July 1, serving until the new dean arrives.
     Members of the search committee for the new dean are
Barbara Gates, Alumni Distinguished Professor of English;
Jean Futrell, Willis F. Harrington Professor of Chemistry
and Biochemistry; Maxine Colm, administration; Carol E.
Hoffecker, Richards Professor of Hiistory; Juan Villamarin,
anthropology; Frank R. Scarpitti, sociology and criminal
justrice; Martha Carothers, art; Marie Robinson, music;
Carlos Plata-Salaman, biology; James Jones, psychology;
Errol Lloyd, computer and information sciences; and Robin
Morgan, animal and food science.
     Richards came to Delaware to serve as dean after three
years as dean of liberal arts at Auburn University. She also
had been a member of the faculty and administration for
several years at the University of Tennessee.
     Known for her scholarly work in Old English literature
and law, she has served as executive director of the
International Society of Anglo-Saxonists. She is author of
the book, Anglo-Saxon Manuscripts: Basic Readings.
     In 1995, Richards served as president of the Council of
Colleges of Arts and Science, a nationwide organization
representing individual liberal arts colleges as well as
colleges of arts and science within comprehensive research
universities.
