DELCAT project complete

The University library project to convert the bibliographic
records from the old card catalog into DELCAT, the online
catalog, is now completed.
The last item added to DELCAT from the card catalog was a 24-
page item by George Massey, which was an oration delivered in
1814 on the Fourth of July at the Newark Academy, "before a large
and respectable company of ladies and gentlemen and the students
of the institution."
The University of Delaware traces its origin to the Academy.
"Numerous library staff over the years worked on this
monumental project," said Susan Brynteson, director of libraries.
"They incorporated the retrospective conversion of card catalog
information into electronic form into their daily activity to
complete the project so that some progress, even though small,
was made every day.
"This diligent work of the cataloging staff, led by Deborah
Rae, head of the Bibliographic Control Department, will enrich
the scholarly and research experiences of present users and
future generations of University students and faculty," she
said.
