Teaching tips for TAs
     
     Graduate teaching assistants learned valuable skills at the
annual 1996 TA conference, sponsored Aug. 26-28 by the Center for
Teaching Effectiveness. Workshops were held on such topics as
diversity, the first day of class, common classroom problems,
designing writing assignments, learning styles, motivating
students, teaching science labs and leading classroom
discussions. The center has been holding conferences for several
years to encourage innovative teaching methods and to better
prepare TAs for the classroom.
