'Timepiece' to begin PTTP's theatre season
This fall, a third class of theatre hopefuls enters the
University's three-year master's degree program, the Professional
Theatre Training Program (PTTP).
With concentrations in acting, technical production and
stage management, the conservatory program is designed to provide
the experiences necessary to master skills for a successful
career in professional theatre.
For the fall, PTTP audiences can expect to enjoy Timepiece
by movement artist Daniel Stein; Love Letters, performed by
husband-and-wife acting team Susan Sweeney and William Leach; and
A Christmas Carol, also performed by Leach. All productions will
take place in Hartshorn Hall.
Student productions, which will begin in January, will
include Henry VI, Tuesday, Oedipus Rex, Visions in Verse and two
other Shakespearean productions.
Timepiece is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday,
Sept. 27-28. Stein, an internationally renowned mime and movement
artist, created the performance on the elusive concept of time.
Tickets are $14 for the general public, $12 for University
faculty and staff and senior citizens, and $8 for students and
members of the UD Academy of Lifelong Learning.
Love Letters, by A.R. Gurney, tells the story of Melissa and
Andy, two childhood companions. As one grows into an artistic
creature and the other into a worldly politician, they carry out
a 40-year relationship on the written page and within the hearts
and imaginations of the audience. Performances are scheduled at
7:30 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 24-26. Matinee
performances, at 12:30 p.m., are scheduled on Saturday and
Sunday, Oct. 26-27. Individual ticket prices for the general
public are $14 for Friday and Saturday evenings, $13 for
weeknight performances and $11 for matinees and Sunday evenings.
Prices for UD faculty and staff and senior citizens are $12 for
Friday and Saturday evenings, $11 for weeknights and $9 for
matinees and Sunday evenings. Prices for students and members of
the Academy of Lifelong Learning at $8 for Friday and Saturday
evenings, $5 for weeknight performances and $4 for matinees and
Sunday evenings.
William Leach's solo adaptation of A Christmas Carol depicts
the timeless story of Ebenezer Scrooge and his ghostly visions of
Christmases past, present and future. The show runs Wednesdays
through Sundays, Nov. 29 through Dec. 24, with evening
performances at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinees at
12:30 p.m. Special ticket prices are $15 for the general public,
$10 for UD faculty and staff, senior citizens and students, and
