Photonics conference to be held on campus Oct. 9-10
Photonics Delaware 2000 will be held from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.,
Oct. 9 and 10, at Clayton Hall, bringing together members of the
photonics community in Delaware and from Berlin and allowing them
to meet and emphasize the synergy between academia and industry.
Photonics is the science of engineering of the interaction
of photons and electrons in materials.
The workshop has been organized by the Institute of Energy
Conversion and the Department of Physics and Astronomy and
sponsored by the Delaware Economic Development Office and the
colleges of Engineering and Arts and Science.
A delegation from Berlin is assisting with the conference.
WISTA, the largest German university and industrial park in
Berlin, includes photonics as one of its four focal centers of
academic and industrial research and development, along with
biotechnology and genetics, information and communication
technology, environmental technology and new materials.
Registration for the conference is free, and the deadline is
Oct. 1. Luncheon registration is $10 per day. Registrations may
