UD policy in line with TitleIX
The University of Delaware is not in any violation of
Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972, which prohibits
sexual discrimination in higher education. That is the
recent finding of the U.S. Department of Education's Office
for Civil Rights (OCR).
The findings marked the end of a several-month-long
federal investigation, resulting from a complaint alleging
lack of appropriate procedures for investigating faculty
sexual harassment complaints on campus.
The OCR agreed that the University Policy Against
Sexual Harassment, as well as the informal procedures used
in investigating allegations of sexual harassment, comply
with both the letter and the spirit of Title IX and its
implementing regulations.
UD officials will continue to administer their
responsibilities under Title IX as they have in the past.
There is an agreement with OCR that UD officials also will
work with the Faculty Senate to refine language in the
complaint procedures of the Faculty Welfare and Privileges
Committee.
