PREVENTIVE HEALTH AND WELLNESS BENEFITS
The University of Delaware encourages employees to
maintain healthy lifestyles by offering a variety of health
and wellness programs. Do you take full advantage of these
opportunities? You may not be aware of programs the
University supports to assist you and your family members
in maintaining good health.
HEALTH INSURANCE
Employees and their eligible family members can
participate in one of five health insurance plans sponsored
by the University. These plans not only provide coverage
when you are sick or injured, but most also cover
preventive health services such as periodic physical
examinations, annual ob-gyn exams, pap smears, mammograms
and a variety of other cancer screens. In addition, the
managed-care plans like HMO, Principal Health Care and
Independent Practice Association cover periodic eye
examinations through participating providers.
DENTAL INSURANCE
The University's Dental Expense Assistance Plan is
another benefit available to employees and their eligible
family members. This program affords coverage for
preventive, restorative, prosthodontic and orthodontic
dental services. Preventive dental benefits are covered at
100 percent of the reasonable and customary fees and
include such services as oral examinations, cleanings, X-
rays, fluoride treatments for participants up to age 21 and
space maintainers.
ANNUAL HEALTH EXAMINATION PROGRAM
Through this program, employees can be reimbursed up
to $150 per fiscal year ($75 for part-time employees) for
specific services not covered by their health insurance.
These specific services include annual physical
examinations (health insurance covers physicals based on
age/frequency guidelines), eye and hearing examinations,
prescription eyeglasses, contact lenses and hearing aid
fittings.
UNIVERSITY WELLNESS PROGRAM
The University's Wellness Program encourages employees
to make lifestyle decisions that promote optimal health.
Employees can participate in a wide variety of fitness,
nursing and nutrition programs. The Employee Fitness
Center, fitness classes, health screenings and seminars,
weight management, nutrition counseling, video and worksite
programs are examples of wellness activities. The
University encourages participation by providing full-time
employees with $50 Wellness Dollars ($25 for part-time
employees) to use on approved UD wellness activities.
Interested employees should contact the Wellness
Center at 831-8388 for program information and
registration.
