             Honors Day ceremonies, events begin on May 8
     
     The University will honor its best and brightest at
Honors Day ceremonies Friday, May 9. Afternoon classes that
day will follow a modified schedule, and three days of
athletic and cultural events are planned over the weekend
for visiting parents and friends.
     Special honors ceremonies, for guests by invitation
only, will be presented by the eight undergraduate colleges
at 2:30 p.m., May 9 at the following locations:
    * College of Agricultural Sciences, Mitchell Hall,
    * College of Arts and Science, Multipurpose Room,
      Trabant University Center,
    * College of Business and Economics, Room 115 Purnell
      Hall,
    * College of Education, 101A Clayton Hall,
    * College of Engineering, Pearson Hall Auditorium,
    * College of Human Resources, Room 128 Clayton Hall,
    * College of Nursing, Trabant University Center
      Theatre,
    * College of Physical Education, Athletics and
      Recreation, Rodney Room, Perkins Student Center.
     
     To accommodate the ceremonies, all 12:20 p.m. classes
will move to 4 p.m., and all 3:35 classes will be held
beginning at 5 p.m.
     Also scheduled for May 9 are honors ceremonies for the
College of Marine Studies at 11 a.m. in Room 104 Cannon
Laboratory on the Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes, and for the
Division of Continuing Education at 6 p.m. in Room 101A of
Clayton Hall.
     The College of Urban Affairs and Public Policy will
hold its honors day activities at 11 a.m., Friday, May 16,
in the Conference Room of the Center for Composite
Materials.
     All students receiving honors and their guests are
invited to attend a reception at the President's House, 47
Kent Way, from 4-5:30 p.m.,  May 9.
     Special day and evening activities are scheduled from
May 8-11 for campus visitors, including tours of the UD
Botanic Gardens and the dedication of the Charles W. Dunham
Garden, scheduled for Saturday, May 10.
     Student research will be the focus of two special
programs. The Steele Symposium, featuring undergraduate and
graduate student research in the College of Human Resources,
will be held from 7-9 p.m., May 8, in Alison Hall, and the
Undergraduate Research Symposium will take place from 9:15
a.m.-1:30 p.m., May 10, in the Perkins Student Center.
     Other activities include performances by the UD Wind
Ensemble, the University of Delaware Chorale, the Choral
Union and the Taggart-Grycky Duo. Exhibitions on the works
of William Faulkner, African American Orators and works by
students seeking a bachelor's or master's of fine arts
degree will be on display. Additionally, the America East
Baseball Championships, hosted by UD at Frawley Stadium in
Wilmington, will be held throughout the weekend.
     Other activities include induction ceremonies for
several campus honor societies.
