Talk on Israel in Kirkbride Hall
Literary critic and scholar Tressa Grauer will present
a free, public program about how contemporary Jewish-
American literature reflects changing attitudes toward
Israel at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 6, in Room 204 of Kirkbride
Hall.
Using Philip Roth's book, Operation Shylock, as the
primary example, Grauer said that authors have begun
questioning the sacred "Promised Land" status of Zion or
Israel and are asking whether or not contemporary Israel is
actually the Jewish homeland in light of the Palestinian
claim, the political reality of the Jewish state and the
acceptance of Jews in America.
For more information, contact the Frank and Yetta
Chaiken Center for Jewish Studies at the University,
