Symposium to focus on undergraduate research
The 12th annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, which
is the culmination of the senior thesis course for Honors
Degree and Degree with Distinction students, will take place
on Honors Day Weekend, from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Saturday, May
10, throughout the Perkins Student Center.
This event recognizes exceptional research work at the
undergraduate level and promotes student awareness of
undergraduate research possibilities.
The symposium will begin with registration and
scientific posters and art exhibits from 9-10 a.m. At 10:15
a.m., the plenary session will begin with a welcome by Joan
Bennett, University Honors Program, who will recognize the
Degree with Distinction and Honors Degree candidates. Mark
Miller, political science and international relations, will
introduce the keynote speaker, Robert Smith, a 1986 UD
Honors Degree graduate and currently an assistant professor
of sociology at Barnard College and Columbia University.
From 11 a.m.-12:20 p.m., in concurrent sessions,
students will present oral talks, including an opportunity
for questions from the audience.
The entire University community is invited to the free,
public symposium.
Attendance will be especially beneficial for those
students contemplating research and/or an enriched degree
and for those faculty sponsoring undergraduate researchers.
