Career speakers
The College School is seeking speakers for its first
Career Week program, to be held from May 5-9 in the Willard
Hall Education Building.
The College School offers an alternative educational
program for children 5-14 years of age who experience
learning difficulties in a traditional school setting.
Career experts will make one or two 30-minute
presentations to a group of five to 10 students from noon-2
p.m., address student questions and involve students in
demonstrations, where applicable.

Luncheon canceled
The 16th annual luncheon of the Center for Black
Culture and the Black Alumni Organization at the University
of Delaware-scheduled at noon, Saturday, April 19, in the
Trabant University-has been canceled.
Guest speaker was to have been Na'im Akbar, one of the
world's preeminent African-American psychologists and a
pioneer in the development of an African-centered approach
in modern psychology.
Anyone who has purchased tickets for the luncheon
should contact the box office at the Bob Carpenter Center
for a refund.

Marine tours
Public tours will be offered of the marine studies
complex at the Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes at 10:30 a.m.
each Friday during June, July and August.
A corps of volunteer guides will conduct the tour,
which includes a 20-minute slide presentation about the
College of Marine Studies faculty and work and a one-hour
walking tour of Cannon and Smith laboratories.
Size of groups is limited.
To schedule a tour, call 645-4346 by noon the day
before the tour.
In addition to the Friday morning tours, the college
offers prearranged tours for groups of five or more, junior
high school age and older, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Mondays
through Fridays. Interested individuals should call the
number above.
Student elections
The Delaware Undergraduate Student Congress (DUSC) and
Resident Student Association (RSA) will be holding annual
elections Tuesday and Wednesday, April 29-30.
Students are encouraged to take an active part in
campus life and call UD7-VOTE.

Arrival survival
The Office of Residence Life will begin accepting
applications April 21 for members of the fall 1997 Arrival
Survival Team.
For the past several years, team participants have
assisted students moving into residence halls at the
beginning of the fall semester.

Literacy help
Literacy Volunteers of America, a non-profit
organization that teaches adults to read and teaches non-
English speakers to speak conversational English, will hold
a training workshop for new tutors from 9:30-noon and 7-9:30
p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 13-June 5, at the Girl
Scouts Chesapeake Bay Council Building, 501 South College
Ave., Newark.
The organization has nearly 100 students waiting for
tutors.
