Student media conference in Arsht Hall on April 26
AStudent Media Convergence, designed to facilitate
interaction among students working in media at the
University, will be held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, April
26, at Arsht Hall on the Wilmington Campus.
A bus will depart from the Perkins Student Center at
8:15 a.m. with a return trip scheduled at 5:15 p.m.
The conference, which is free and open to all UD
students, will address the changed media environment, the
future of media in the coming century and the role of
student leaders involved in media, such as The Review, SLTV,
The Blue Hen Yearbook, WVUD and other organizations..
The conference also will explore the development of a
Student Media Advisory Board.
Highlights of the conference include a keynote address
by Charlie Tomlinson, director of sales and marketing for
Suburban Publishing, which publishes Delaware Today and
Mainline Today. He will speak from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Roland M. Smith, vice president for student life, will
address the group at 11 a.m.
A panel discussion by alumni working in media, who will
speak on their experiences, is scheduled from 1:15-2:30
p.m., with Mark Nardone, staff writer for Delaware Today and
former executive editor of The Review, as moderator.
Panelists are Nina Harris, Delaware '88,
program/leadership coordinator in the Trabant University
Center; Shawn Harvell, Delaware '95, freelance web page
developer; Matt O'Donnell, Delaware '94, news reporter with
WPVI-TV in Philadelphia; and Michael Reath, Delaware '88,
local sales manager for WDEL/WSTW and development manager
for Delmarva Marketing.
Rob Longwell-Grice, residence life, a program producer
of SLTV, will do the warm-ups before the morning and
afternoon sessions. Chuck Tarver, WVUD, is coordinating the
conference.
Pre-registration is required for an accurate count for
lunch and transportation.

at WVUD, Perkins Student Center. Students should indicate if
they need bus transportation. Students registering after
Monday, April 21, are not guaranteed lunch; those with
dietary restrictions should indicate this on their
registration forms.
