          Graduate office announces 1997-98 fellows, scholars
     
     The Office of Graduate Studies has awarded Competitive
Fellowships and Competitive Tuition Scholarships for 1997-98
to 26 graduate students. Based on their accomplishments and
promise as outstanding professionals in their fields, the
graduate students were selected by a subcommittee of the
Faculty Senate Committee on Graduate Studies.
     The awards were given to

     Kyung-Jin Boo, urban affairs and public policy;
     Alan Braddock, art history;
     Thomas Brandt, chemistry and biochemistry;
     Christopher Brown, computer and information sciences;
     Todd Callaghan, biological sciences;
     Edward Eastwick, linguistics;
     Sara Brittton Goodling, English;
     Stephen Gros, economics;
     Vijay Jayachandran, mechanical engineering;
     Prasanna Joshi, chemical engineering;
     Sharon Keeler, plant and soil sciences;
     Jill McCorkel, sociology;
     Jessica Murphy, art history;
