                            Wellness works

     Three Employee Wellness Center programs are scheduled
from 12:10-12:50 p.m., during April and May. The instructor
for all presentations is Marianne Carter, R.D., and the cost
is $10 Wellness Dollars.
     To register for these programs, call 831-8388.
     Healthy Eating on the Run-Learn skills to help you eat
well despite a hectic schedule. Participants will receive a
workbook filled with helpful hints.

     Label-Ease-Learn a fun and simple way to evaluate a
food's nutritional value using the fingers of one hand.

     Diets Don't Work-Learn the pitfalls of going on and off
weight-loss diets. Receive practical tips about how to
approach weight management safely and sensibly.

     Computerized Nutritional Analysis is available at the
"spring special," reduced price.
     Send a three-day record of your food intake (including
beverages and snacks) and it will be analyzed. Participants
will receive information including such information as the
amount of fat calories, cholesterol and percentage of fat
consumed. There also will be suggestions about how to
improve one's diet, as needed.
     Cost is $15 Wellness Dollars. The regular prices is
$20. This offer expires May 15.

     Taking Control of Your Health- Learn how to become more
effective in communicating with your health care provider
and how to receive proper medical care and attention. The
program, presented by Patty McMichael, nursing student, and
Phyllis Whaler, fitness manager, will be offered from noon-1
p.m., Monday, April 14, at a location to be announced.
     Cost is $10 Wellness Dollars or $10 cash.

     WalkAmerica-The March of Dimes' annual WalkAmerica will
be held on both the UD Newark and Wilmington campuses this
year. The Wilmington event will begin at 8 a.m., Saturday,
April 26, on the Wilcastle campus, and the Newark event will
start at 8 a.m., Sunday, April 27, near Delaware Field
House. In addition, there are several other area sites
conducting the annual walk, including:
     * April 19, beginning at 8 a.m., at North East
Community Park, North East, Md.,
     * April 19, beginning at 8 a.m., at Legislative Mall,
Dover, and
     * April 27, beginning at noon, at Grove Park, Rehoboth.
     At each UD event, the first 50 people who arrive at the
registration desk on the day of the walk, and who have a
minimum of $25 in pledges, will receive free T-shirts.
     Mini-practice walks of 1-3 miles will be offered for
members of the University community from noon-1 p.m. on
Fridays, April 11, 18 and 25. They will begin at the
Carpenter Sports Building and proceed along the White Clay
Creek.
     The Employee Wellness Center is encouraging employees
to form teams for both the mini-walks and the March of Dimes
walk.
     Brochures with registration information are available
at both student centers, at the Employee Fitness Center and
at any student fitness center.

     Congratulations-Kathlene Wheatley, public relations,
won lunch for two at Salad Works and Judy Byerly, biology,
won lunch for two at the Brickyard Restaurant.
     They participated in the drawing held for participants
in the Eating Out Healthfully program.
