New web site gives library users info on latest books
The Electronic New Book Shelf is a new service at the
UD library, providing online access to a listing of selected
new books which are physically located on the New Book
Shelf, currently on the first floor of the Morris Library
next to the Periodicals Room.
The new service is listed under the "Circulation"
section of the Library web page at http://www. lib.udel.edu
The direct URL is http://www.lib.udel.edu/ud/circ/newbook
The Electronic New Book Shelf is updated twice weekly
and allows library users to browse by author, title, Library
of Congress subject heading or Library of Congress call
number.
Users also are able to make an online request that a
new book be held at the circulation desk. When a user clicks
on the "Request This Book" button, he or she is presented
with a form that includes the citation information for the
book requested. The user enters his or her UD ID number,
name, address and phone number and clicks the "Submit
Request" button. The request is then delivered for
processing via e-mail to Morris Library circulation staff
members.
Viewing the list of items on the Electronic New Book
Shelf on the web is available to the general public, while
the "Request This Book" feature is available for UD ID card
holders and public borrower card holders.
"For many years, faculty have requested library staff
to provide an acquisitions list or to notify them if new
books are available in their field," Susan Brynteson,
director, said. "Such an activity was a major, labor-
intensive undertaking, which the library was not able to do
previously. Now, technology allows us to provide this much-
desired service."
