Wellness works
Health information
"Taking Control of Your Health" will explain how to become
more effective in communicating with your health care
provider and how to receive proper medical care and
attention. The program, presented by Patty McMichael,
nursing student, and Phyllis Whaler, fitness manager, will
be offered from noon-1 p.m., Monday, April 14, at a location
to be announced.
Cost is $10 Wellness Dollars or $10 cash.
To register, call the Employee Wellness Center at 831-
8388.
Tennis tourney
A tennis tournament, for those who play singles or doubles
and at any level, will be held from April through September.
Individuals can designate their own levels and will be
responsible for contacting other interested participants, at
similar levels, to schedule their games.
Courts at Carpenter Sports Building have been reserved for
the tennis tournament; however, individuals may play on the
courts of their choosing. After their games, they will need
to report their scores.
Each participant will receive information on appropriate
stretches and tennis tips, as well as a free lesson from UD
tennis coach Laura Leroy. The free lesson will be offered
from 11 a.m.-noon, Saturday, April 12, in the Carpenter
Sports Building.
At the conclusion of the tournament, there will be a
drawing for a free membership to the Wilmington Indoor
Tennis Club, which will be in effect from October through
April. The drawing will be based on a minimum number of
games played, not number of games won.
The tournament begins April 7 and runs throughout the
spring and summer, concluding Sept. 30. Cost is $10 Wellness
Dollars or $10 cash.
Call the Employee Wellness Center at 831-8388 for
information, and a packet will be sent explaining the
process.
WalkAmerica events
The March of Dimes' annual WalkAmerica will be held on
both the Newark and Wilmington campuses this year. The
Wilmington event will begin at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 26,
on the Wilcastle campus, and the Newark event will start at

addition, there are several other area sites conducting the

Park, North East, Md.,
April 19, beginning at 8 a.m., at Legislative Mall, Dover,
and
April 27, beginning at noon, at Grove Park, Rehoboth.
At each UD event, the first 50 people who arrive at the
registration desk on the day of the walk, and who have a
minimum of $25 in pledges, will receive free T-shirts.
Mini-practice walks of 1-3 miles will be offered for
members of the University community from noon-1 p.m. on
Fridays, April 11, 18 and 25. They will begin at the
Carpenter Sports Building and proceed along the White Clay
Creek.
The Employee Wellness Center is encouraging employees to
form teams for both the mini-walks and the March of Dimes
walk.
Brochures with registration information are available at
both student centers, at the Employee Fitness Center and at
any student fitness center.
