Special events for Perkins Student Center Week
April will be a busy month at the Perkins Student
Center. With the arrival of warm weather, special lunchtime
celebrations are planned on the front patio, and special
evening events will be held in the Hen Zone, in celebration
of Perkins Student Center Week, April 21-25.
On Monday, April 21, lunchtime activities feature
Sandy, the fortune teller, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Then, at 8:30
p.m. in the Hen Zone, students and the public are invited to
participate in a murder mystery, with prizes for the person
who solves this whodunit. Doors will open at 8 p.m.
On Tuesday, April 22, lunchtime festivities continue
from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. with campus favorite Paul Kleba, who
will make personalized greeting cards while you wait. Then,
in the evening, Big Daddy Graham and Mary Francis Connelly
from Philadelphia's Comedy Cabaret Inc. will be performing
stand-up comedy, starting at 8:30 p.m. in the Hen Zone.
Wednesday, April 23, also will feature Paul Kleba and
his personnacards with lunchtime entertainment. At 8:30
p.m., Nero, Newark's latest local band, will be performing
live in the Hen Zone. Doors open at 8 p.m.
On Thursday, April 24, the Lunchtime MusiCafe will
start at noon, featuring Harvey Price and the Royal Steel
Band playing on the Patio.
In case of inclement weather, the band will perform in
the Scrounge.
That evening, the Hen Zone will be hosting the Lexicon
of Bad Words starting at 8:30 p.m., with doors opening at 8
p.m.
On Friday, April 25, the Lunchtime MusiCafe begins at
noon, featuring contemporary folk singer Antje Duvekot.
That night will be Casino Night at the Hen Zone.
Players don't have to be 21; games will be played with fake
money that can be cashed in for prizes.
In addition to these events, two student organizations
will sponsor special activities in the Perkins Student
Center on Saturday, April 26.
The Khulumani Theatre Troupe will present "Moodswings
II: An Exhibition in Style." This event, which will combine
food, a fashion show and a live band called Moodswings, will
take place in the Bacchus Theatre. Social hour begins at 5
p.m., and the fashion show at 7 p.m. Ticket prices are $8
for students and $12 for the general public if purchased in
advance at the Bob Carpenter Center and the Trabant
University Center box offices. Cost at the door is $10 for
students and $15 for the general public.

Also on Friday, April 26, Hola will host a charity ball
to raise money for a local Hispanic nursing home. The event,
which begins at 7 p.m. in the Rodney Room, will feature
dancing, food and a disk jockey who will play contemporary
dance, as well as special Latino music.
Tickets are $10 per person or $15 per couple and will
be on sale at the door.
