Change of command
At the ROTC change of command ceremony Feb. 21 in
Carpenter Sports Building, the new cadet battalion
commander, Cadet Lt. Col. Darren Buss (left), receives the
Fightin' Blue Hen unit colors from Cadet Lt. Col. Joseph
Gelineau III, his predecessor. The colors are the
commander's symbol of authority, representing his
responsibilities to the organization. Wherever the commander
goes, the colors also are present.
Buss is responsible for the unit during this spring;
Gelineau led the battalion during the fall semester.
Retired Brig. Gen. Kenneth L. Rieth, Delaware '53,
spoke at the ceremony. Rieth, who played football at
Delaware, scored the first two touchdowns in Delaware
Stadium. He was inducted last year into the UD's Battalion
Hall of Heroes.
