Economic development 3-day conference focus
UD's Center for Community Development will cosponsor a
three-day, 16-state meeting Friday-Sunday, March 21-23, at
the Downtown Holiday Inn in Wilmington.
The National Congress for Community Economic
Development Northeast Regional Conference will focus on how
communities can form development corporations to build
affordable housing, create and expand neighborhood-owned
businesses and revitalize their neighborhoods.
Workshops will be held on how communities can
compensate for the consequences of welfare reform, respond
to dwindling federal resources, assess the impact of the
balanced budget amendment act, implement mixed income
housing and achieve economic independence from state and
federal programs.
Representatives of community economic development
corporations from Maine to Washington, D.C., and the
Canadian province of Nova Scotia will meet with bankers and
entrepreneurs during the workshops and in training sessions
on how to raise capital.
Sponsors of the conference include the Delaware
Association of Community-Based Development Organizations,
the city of Wilmington and PNC, Corestates, Fleet and Chase
banks.
