Annual performance appraisal process will begin this month
Each year, the University's performance appraisal
process provides supervisors with an opportunity to review
the job performance of professionals and salaried staff
members in their units. UD's appraisal form encourages
active participation by employees in the process.
A self-appraisal worksheet requires an employee to
identify accomplishments, set performance goals and indicate
career development interests. Supervisors are expected to
comment in narrative form on the individual's job
performance and complete 11 performance rating factors.
An Improvement Plan is included for those employees
whose performance requires special attention.
The time period covered by the annual appraisal process
runs from April 1 of the previous year to April 1 of the
year in which the form is completed-or April 1, 1996, to
April 1, 1997, for this year's term.
To expedite the process, appraisal forms for salaried
and professional staff are located under Employee
Information on U-Discover! (gopher), and Netscape on the UD
home page on the World Wide Web. The forms are available in
WordPerfect (5.0/5.1) for DOS, WordPerfect for Windows and
Microsoft Word for Macintosh versions.
Paper appraisal forms also are available in the Office
of Employee Services.
Training sessions will be held this month to
familiarize supervisors and employees with the performance
evaluation process.
The first session acquaints employees with the major
elements of the annual performance appraisal system.
Participants will review the steps involved in identifying
their major responsibilities and in completing the self-
appraisal worksheet.
Workshops on these topics are scheduled from 11 a.m.-
noon, Thursday, March 13, and from 1-2 p.m., Tuesday, March
18, at sites to be announced.
A second session, designed to enhance the evaluation
skills of supervisors as well as provide an overview of the
performance appraisal process, will be held from 2-3 p.m.,
Tuesday, March 11, and from 11 a.m.-noon, Monday, March 17,
at sites to be announced.
Evaluation of salaried and professional staff members
must be completed and submitted to employee services no
later than April 17.
Questions concerning the appraisal process should be
directed to Joyce Henderson, employee services, at 831-6651.
