Noted soprano in recital March 23
Soprano Marie Robinson, music, will present a free
recital at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 23, in the Loudis Recital
Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.
Accompanied by pianist Julie Nishimura, faculty
accompanist, Robinson will perform works by Bach, Purcell,
Brahms, Mozart and Carlisle Floyd's song cycle, The Mystery.
Joined by her son, baritone Tobie Robinson, she will sing
the duet of Donna Anna and Don Ottavio from Act I of
Mozart's opera, Don Giovanni.
Robinson made her operatic debut as Aida with the Graz
Opera, where she was principal soloist for three years.
During her tenure at Graz, she was hailed by critics as the
finest Tosca of her generation. Also at Graz, she became the
first soprano of her race to portray the role of Sieglinde
in Die Walkre.
Her repertoire includes 33 major roles, and she has
appeared with 42 companies in Europe, the United States and
South America. Most recently, she performed the role of Aida
in Mexico, Hong Kong, Marseilles and Lyon, as well as with
OperaDelaware. At the University of Delaware, she has co-
directed The Medium, Gianni Schicchi, The Stoned Guest and
Trial by Jury.
