                    Delaware's best ice skaters in
                      send-off program March 1-2

The best skaters Delaware has to offer will star in an
upcoming World Send-Off Ice Show, scheduled at the UD Ice
Arena on Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2. The annual
preview of those competing in world competition will begin
at 5 p.m. both nights.
The UD Ice Skating Science Development Center, directed
by 1960 Olympic bronze medalist Ron Ludington, is home to 10
skaters who will compete in the World Championships in
Lucerne, Switzerland, from March 17-23.
"We're looking at a strong contingent going into the
World Championships, and we should expect to see some
medals," Ludington said.
Three of five UD ice skating teams will perform in the
UD show: Galit Chait and Sergei Sakhonski, 1996 Skate Israel
Dance Silver medalists; Irina Romanova and Igor Yaroshenko,
1997 Ukrainian Dance Champions; and Elaine Asanakis and Joel
McKeever, 1997 Greek Pair Champions. Other internationally
and nationally competitive skaters from Delaware also will
perform.
The World Send-Off Ice Show, always a popular event,
features the skaters performing numbers geared more toward
the audience than the judges, and this makes the shows very
entertaining, Ludington said.
Tickets, available now at UD box offices or through the
Ice Arena, are $15 and $12 for adults; $12 and $9 for UD
staff, senior citizens and children; and $5 for UD students.
