Employees respond positively to
'Money Management' help
On the day a new "Money Management" program for
employees was announced, the class was filled with 50
participants, the maximum number possible.
In fact, there's a waiting list for future programs.
According to Nancy Wallace, benefits, to meet the demand,
another program is being planned to be offered in early
spring.
The six-part program is designed to help participants
find practical ways to manage their money and to develop
saving strategies.
Sessions include "Getting Organized and Building a
Budget," "Communicating about Money," "Using Credit Wisely,"
"Savings and Investments," "Protecting Income and Assets"
and "Wills and Estate Planning."
Workshop facilitators include both University and
external professionals with expertise in the areas of
financial counseling, insurance, investments and estate
planning.
A key facilitator will be Maria Pippidis, Cooperative
Extension home economist, an experienced financial counselor
and adult educator who has conducted financial management
workshops throughout the state.
Other speakers include Gina Golson and Christopher
Trombetta from TIAA-CREF; Lisa Broadbent-Diossi from
Nationwide Insurance; and attorney Mary M. Culley, partner
in the Wilmington law firm of Morris, James, Hitchens &
Williams.
The program is jointly sponsored by Benefits Services,
Cooperative Extension and the Office of Employee Training
and Career Development.
If this pilot program is a success, "Money Management"
will be incorporated into the Office of Employee Training
and Development curriculum advertised each spring and fall
in UpDate.
