Four senior faculty honored
Four senior faculty have been named 1997-98 recipients of
prestigious fellowships from the Center for Advanced
Studies.
These fellowships are awarded for concentrated
scholarship and/or the improvement of instruction and are a
special demonstration of the University's commitment to
supporting the highest levels of teaching and scholarhip.
An improvement-of-instruction fellowship is awarded to:
Deborah Andrews, English, "Improving Instruction in
Advanced Writing."
Research fellowships are awarded to:
Joan Brown, foreign languages and literature, "The
Hispanic Literary Canson";
Mark Miller, political science and international
relations, "Quest for Control: Assessing Western European
Efforts to Stem Illegal Migration"; and
Elaine Safer, English, "The Comic Impulse: Reading Philip
Roth."
Martha Carothers, art, was convener of the Chairs' Caucus
to review applications and make recommendations to the
provost.
