Diversity workshops announced
A number of full- and half-day workshops on "Welcoming and
Appreciating Diversity" will be presented during the fall
semester.
The sessions will focus on how to identify misinformation we
care about ourselves and others, how to heal the emotional wounds
resulting from mistreatment and how to challenge all forms of
discrimination.
The scheduled sessions in September all will be presented
from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. They will take place on Saturday, Sept. 14,
in Room 206, Trabant University Center; and Saturday, Sept. 28,
and Sunday, Sept. 29, in Christiana Commons, Room A.
October sessions, all in Room 219, Trabant University
Center, are 8:30 a.m. - noon, Wednesday, Oct. 2; 9 a.m.-1 p.m.,
Saturday, Oct. 5; and 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29.
The November workshops, all in Room 219, Trabant University
Center, are 8:30 a.m.-noon, Monday, Nov. 11; 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.,
Saturday, Nov. 16; and 8:30 a.m.-noon, Thursday, Nov. 21.
Two December workshops are planned, both from 8:30 a.m.-
noon, on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and Thursday, Dec. 12, both in Room
219, Trabant University Center.
According to Judith Gibson, affirmative action and
multicultural programs, the response of participants to diversity
workshops held in previous years has been overwhelmingly
positive.
Comments from evaluations completed by staff members and
students who participated in the workshops during the 1995-96
academic year included:
* "I am glad I attended the workshop. I think I learned a
lot in just one day. I think this workshop can be very
beneficial, all you need is an open mind."
* "I was part of a program that made me think about who
and what I was.. I not only received the chance to look at
myself and analyze my thoughts and feelings, I was able to meet
and interact with other students. This workshop was a highly
valuable experience."
