Thurman G. Adams recipient of UD Medal of Distinction

     State Sen. Thurman G. Adams Jr., Delaware '50, was presented
with the University of Delaware Medal of Distinction by trustee
John E. Burris Aug. 24 at Farm and Field Day at the College of
Agricultural Sciences' Research and Education Center in
Georgetown.
     The medal recognizes professional achievements, significant
service to the community and contributions to society.
     Adams has represented the 19th Senatorial District from 1972
to the present and has chaired the Agriculture and Executive
committees. During his career, he has served as chairperson of
the Governor's Highway Safety Committee, as member of the
Delaware State Highway Commission, as president of the Eastern
Shore Grain Dealers' Association, as director of the University's
Agriculture Alumni Association Board and as chairperson of  the
Union United Methodist Church Board.
     Among his honors, he has received the George M. Worrilow
Award from the Agricultural Alumni Association, the Sussex
Country Service Club Award and the Delaware State Bar Association
Award. He was inducted into the UD Alumni Wall of Fame in 1991.
     Adams is married to the former Hilda McCabe, Delaware '53,
and is president of T.G. Adams & Sons, dealers and brokers of
feed and grain. His daughter Lynn Adams Slater Kokjohn graduated
from the University in 1978 and is a DuPont Co. global market
services manager.
