Mascot and cheerleaders win summer camp titles

The University's Fightin' Blue Hen mascot, YoUDee, and the
Delaware cheerleading team won numerous awards at the Universal
Cheerleading Association's (UCA) East Regional camps, held Aug.
10-13 at Rutgers University.
YoUDee finished in first place, from a field of 21 at the
UCA Mascot Camp, including mascots from Duke, Georgetown,
Maryland, Rutgers, Syracuse, Wake Forest and Villanova. The
mascots were judged on a point system, with scores coming from
five different events involving field walks, two-minute skits and
a visit to a local pre-school in New Brunswick, N.J.
YoUDee also received the Leadership Award, an honor voted on
by peers.
At the UCA Cheerleading Camp, the University of Delaware
cheerleading squad finished first in the Division I level for all
three competitions entered: "Cheer," "Sideline" and "Fight Song."
Delaware's rivals included Penn, Rhode Island and Villanova.
Forty-four teams attended the UCA Cheerleading Camp.
The UD cheerleading squad also was awarded the "Most
Collegiate" trophy, presented to the squad showing the most
college spirit.
YoUDee and the cheerleaders showed their winning styles at
the Fightin' Blue Hens football home opener vs. Lehigh, Sept. 7.
