Y-Chromes to host a cappella regional competition Feb. 21
The Y-Chromes, an all-male a cappella group, will serve as
host to the mid-Atlantic regional competition of the National
Championship of College A Cappella at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21.
The concert, featuring performers from Pennsylvania, Maryland and
New Jersey, will be held in Mitchell Hall.
The show will feature seven top a cappella groups. In
addition to the UD's Y-Chromes, performers will include the
Pennsylvania 6-5000, the University of Maryland Treblemakers, the
Columbia Uptown Vocal, the Princeton Footnotes, the Penn
Counterparts and the Johns Hopkins University Vocal Chords.
Judges, arranged by the Contemporary A Cappella Society of
America and Smokin' Fish Records, will rate the groups in the
categories of presentation, musicality, originality and soloists.
The two top-rated groups will advance to the March 1 regional
semifinal at the University of Pennsylvania. The winner of that
competition will then advance to the national final at Carnegie
Hall in New York City.
Tickets, at $5 each, are available in advance at the Bob
Carpenter Center and the Trabant University Center box offices.
They also are available by calling Ticketmaster at 984-2000.
