VP John T. Brook retires after 26 years of service

John T. Brook, vice president for government and public
relations, retired Jan. 15.
"John Brook has been a strong advocate for the University of
Delaware over the years and has worked to raise the awareness of
the very positive impact of the University on our city, state and
nation," University President David P. Roselle said. "We
appreciate his contributions and wish him well in his
retirement."
"I have enjoyed the many opportunities that the University
of Delaware has provided me in my more than 26 years here," Brook
said. "The University is a wonderful place, and I've been pleased
to work on its behalf. What I will miss most are the people, both
on our campuses and those I've met and worked with in the
community and government."
The vice presidency will not be refilled, and the units
reporting to that office have been reassigned, Roselle said. For
at least the time being, the Office of Government Relations and
the Office of Public Relations now report directly to the
president, and the Occupational Health and Safety unit reports to
the executive vice president, he explained.
Brook came to Delaware in 1970 as director of public safety
and was assistant to the president for special projects from 1977-
85. He served as acting vice president for personnel and employee
relations in 1985-86 and was vice president for government
relations from 1986-90, when he was named vice president for
government and public relations.
Before coming to the University, he was a special agent for
seven years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Earlier, he
served as a law clerk and a secondary school teacher in Ohio.
Brook has been active in several regional organizations,
serving on the boards of directors of the Arthritis
Foundation-Delaware chapter, Committee of 100 and the New Castle
County Chamber of Commerce, where he served two terms as chairman
of the board. He also co-chaired the Public Policy Advisory
Council of the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce.
A life member of the International Association of Chiefs of
Police, he is also a member of the Society of Former Special
Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the American
Society of Industrial Security.
In the community, he has been active in the Lincoln Club,
the Head of Christiana Presbyterian Church, the League of Women
Voters, the Civic League of New Castle County, Wilmington 2000,
the Delaware Association for Public Administration and the
Delaware Society for Sons of the American Revolution.
Chair of the University's Risk Management Council, Brook has
served on the city of Newark's Town and Gown Committee, the
Newark Advisory Community Advisory Panel, the Wilmington Area
Planning Council and the Western Newark Traffic Relief Committee.
A graduate of Allegheny College, he received his law degree
from Ohio State University.
