UD, city to cohost mediation sessions

     The University and the city of Newark will host a four-day
mediation skills training workshop to help Newark residents and
UD students and staff learn how to resolve disputes before they
escalate.
     Held in association with the Student Mediation Action and
Response Team (SMART), the program will be held March 1-2 and
March 8-9 in the Perkins Student Center.
     There is no cost for this program, which is open to the
public.

David Herman to play at Longwood

     David Herman, music, will perform on the Longwood Gardens
10,010-pipe Aeolian organ at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 23, in the
Conservatory Ballroom, with seating for 350 on a first-come,
first-served basis.
     Cost is included in the general admission charge of $10 for
adults, $6 for ages 16-20 and $2 for ages 6-15. Children under
the age of 6 are free.
     Herman's one-hour program is entitled "Majestic Marches and
Memorable Memories." The chairperson of the UD Department of
Music has performed extensively throughout North Germany, England
and Wales.
     Longwood's organ was built in 1929 with 146 sets of pipes.
It weighs 55 tons and is installed in nine chambers. It is
perhaps the world's largest residence organ. For information,

Bosnian talk at Cokesbury Village

     Mark Huddleston, political science and international
relations, will present a program on his recent visit to Bosnia
during the Delaware Division of the United Nations Association of
the United States of America at noon, Saturday, Feb. 15, at
Cokesbury Village.

Copyright focus of video conference

     On Thursday, Feb. 20, the Office of Information Technologies
is sponsoring a live satellite downlink of the "Fair Use
Guidelines for Educational Multimedia" videoconference.
     The live campus viewing will be from 1-3 p.m. in Room 311 of
Pearson Hall.
     The conference, produced by the Consortium of College and
University Media centers, includes panelist from the publishing
industry, universities and the U.S. Copyright Office. It will
help the University community learn what is and is not considered
acceptable use of copyrighted materials, with an emphasis on how
the new guidelines affect teaching and learning
     It will be re-broadcast from noon-2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28,
on UDTV Channel 48.


Silent play set on Hartshorn stage

     Tuesday, a wordless performance conceived and directed by
Jewel Walker, theatre, opens Thursday, Feb. 20, in Hartshorn
Hall.
     Presented by the Professional Theatre Training Program, the
play showcases an enchanting hodgepodge of characters who appear
and disappear through imaginative and captivating vignettes of
daily routine
     Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 20- 23.
Matinee performances are scheduled at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and
Sunday, Feb. 22 and 23.
     Ticket prices range from $8 to $14 for Friday and Saturday
evening performances, $5 to $13 for weeknights and $4-$11 for
matinees.

Dar William tix are now on sale

     Tickets are now on sale for a concert by contemporary
folksinger Dar Williams, scheduled at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 1,
in Mitchell Hall.
     The concert will kick off the celebration of Women's History
Month at UD.
     In 1996, Williams emerged as a most convincing new writer
and performer. Her second album, Mortal City, sold more than
40,000 copies in its first six months-a huge number for an
independent release. Her first single, "As Cool As I Am," cracked
the influential "Radio & Records" Top 30 chart.
     Tickets for the March 1 concert at UD are $8 for the general
public and $5 for UD faculty, staff and students and are
available at the Bob Carpenter Center and the Trabant University

Reception set for women Feb. 20

     A reception in appreciation of women will be held from 4:30-
6:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, in Multipurpose Room A of the
Trabant University Center. Featured Speaker Jean Nutter, special
assistant to Wilmington Mayor James Sills, will present a program
on "Women Connecting Across Cultures: The Power of Sisterhood."
     There also will be refreshments, a resource table and door
prizes. All members of the University community are invited to
attend, but those interested should reply in advance by calling
Christine Cook at 831-8741.


Christian music in Mitchell Hall

     Christian music artists Cindy Morgan and Brent Bourgeois
will appear in concert at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, in Mitchell
Hall.
     Morgan is a multiple Dove Award winner and Christian music's
1996 Female Vocalist of the Year. Appearing with Morgan,
Bourgeois is a chart-topping singer and the producer responsible
for Listen. Since retiring from touring, Bourgeois only rarely
gives public performances despite three number one hits from his
debut Christian album Come Join The Living World.
     Tickets are $8 for students, $12 in advance and $14 at the
door. Group rates also are available, and special Golden Circle
seating is available for $22 per person.

Jazz drummer to appear in April

     Tickets go on sale Saturday, Feb. 15, for a concert by the
famous Louie Bellson Quartet planned for April 5. Bellson is the
percussionist Duke Ellington called "the world's greatest
drummer."
     Sponsored by Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity, the
concert will begin at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, in Mitchell.
Tickets, which will be on sale at all UD box offices, are $15 in
advance and $18 at the door.
     Bellson's accolades are legend. He has been voted into the
Hall of Fame for both Modern Drummer Magazine and the Percussive
