Ice dancers win silver medal at European championships

     Four ice dancing teams that train at UD's Ice Skating
Science Development Center placed in skating's European
Championships held Jan. 21-26.
     These skaters and others can be seen in the upcoming World
Send-Off Show, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 1 and 2,
in the Blue Ice Arena.
     Anjelika Krylova and Oleg Ovsiannikov, representing Russia,
captured the silver medal in ice dance for the second consecutive
year.
     Ice dancing teams Irina Lobacheva and Ilia Averbukh of
Russia and Irina Romanova and Igor Yaroshenko of the Ukraine took
fifth and sixth place honors, respectively. And, the ice dancing
pair of Galit Chait and Sergei Sakhnovsky of Israel took 14th
place out of 29 pairs.
     "Everybody was great," said coach Natalia Linichuk. She and
her husband and fellow coach, Gennadiy Karponosov, said they were
pleased with the performances and are now looking forward to
world championship competition March 17-23.
     In the pairs competition, Elaine Asanakis and Joel McKeever,
who represent Greece, placed l0th, skating the best program of
their career.
     "We were really on. We did great and so did all of the teams
from UD," McKeever said.
