'Mary Poppins' is Junior Series show
Children can see everyone from perky Mary Poppins to
cantankerous Cruella deVille as the Performing Arts Series'
Junior Series continues with showings of classic films. Also
included in the spring semester line-up is a live stage
performance chronicling the antics of the most mischievous monkey
ever known- Curious George.
Mary Poppins, with its classic tunes and lovable story, will
be shown Saturday, Feb. 15 . Disney's new, non-animated 101
Dalmatians will be screened on Saturday, March 15.
Both movies are scheduled for 10 a.m. in the theatre of the
Trabant University Center. Cost for each movie is $4 for adults
and $1 for children under 12. Tickets are available in advance by

Curious George will take to the stage in Mitchell Hall at 2

beloved Curious George books know, this endearing little monkey
stumbles into trouble wherever he goes.
This final presentation of the Junior Series is sure to
abound with frenzied fun. Tickets are $10 for the general public,
$8 for UD faculty, staff and alumni and $5 for children 12 and
under.

UD connections at Borders Books
UD alumnus Greer Firestone, president of College Bound, will
present a program at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 24, at Borders
Books, Geoffrey Drive, Newark. The program is designed to help
high school students and their families navigate the intricate
world of college selection, admissions and financial aid.
Peter Hill, music, will lead the inaugural meeting of a new
Jazz Music Discussion Group at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 24. Often
called the one truly unique American form of music, jazz has been
misunderstood for years.

Reading on Feb. 12 of Coward play
The After Dinner Players will present a staged reading of
Noel Coward's Hay Fever at 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, in the
Chapel Street Theatre, Newark. The free, public performance will
be preceded by entertainment and refreshments beginning at 7:30
p.m.
Composed of faculty from the departments of English and
Theatre, the After Dinner Players also includes members of the
local community.
The play tells the story of a madcap rendezvous at the home
shared by David Bliss, a popular writer of gaudy romances, and
Judith, his overly dramatic wife, recently retired from a life on
the stage.
In one short weekend, their home becomes an asylum of
partner-switching house guests, egotistical over-acting and
sparkling repartee.
Guest artist David Howey from England's Royal Shakespeare
Company and Catherine Fitzmaurice, theatre and internationally
renowned voice coach, will star as David and Judith. Scott Mason,
student center, also stars.
Richard Davison, English, will present pre-show
enlightenment and an entertaining commentary on the wit and
wisdom of Coward. The play is directed by James Cunningham,
theatre, and produced by Joy B. Schweizer. The production is
cosponsored by the Chapel Street Players.
For more information, call 731-4368.
Christian music in Mitchell Hall
Christian music artists Cindy Morgan and Brent Bourgeois
will appear in concert at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, in Mitchell
Hall.
Morgan is a multiple Dove Award winner and Christian music's
1996 Female Vocalist of the Year.
The title cut from her latest album, Listen, has been the
country's number one Christian radio hit for six weeks. The album
is described as "acoustically driven, spiritually honest and
musically satisfying." Other songs from the album will be
released in the coming month and are expected to bring Morgan's
straightforward gospel message to audiences who may never have
heard her before.
Appearing with Morgan, Bourgeois is a chart-topping singer
and the producer responsible for Listen. Since retiring from
touring, Bourgeois only rarely gives public performances despite
three number one hits from his debut Christian album Come Join
The Living World. A former secular artist, Bourgeois was a
founding member of the '80s band, Bourgeois Tagg, which had the
hit "I Don't Mind At All." He has appeared on The Tonight Show,
American Bandstand and MTV and toured with the likes of Belinda
Carlisle, Heart and Robert Palmer.
The concert is sponsored by Episcopal Campus Ministries, in
cooperation with the other five denominational campus ministries
at UD and WXHL 89.1 FM.
Tickets are $8 for students, $12 in advance and $14 at the
door. Group rates also are available, and special Golden Circle
seating is available for $22 per person.
Tickets can be purchased at the Salty Fisherman Bookstore in
Churchman's Plaza, at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church in Newark or
by calling 1-800-521-0290.

Silent performance in Hartshorn Hall
Tuesday, a wordless performance conceived and directed by
Jewel Walker, theatre, opens Thursday, Feb. 20, in Hartshorn
Hall.
Presented by the Professional Theatre Training Program, the
play showcases an enchanting hodgepodge of characters who appear
and disappear through imaginative and captivating vignettes of
daily routine. A dog-walker with an incontinent pup, a pack of
partygoers en route to a celebration, a purse snatcher, a drunk
and a Salvation Army band all make up a day in the life of an
ordinary street. With action inspired by silent film, Walker
transforms this ordinary day into an extraordinary theatrical
experience.
Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 20-23. Matinee
performances are scheduled at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday,
Feb. 22 and 23.
Ticket prices range from $8 to $14 for Friday and Saturday
evening performances, $5 to $13 for weeknights and $4-$11 for
matinees.
